A Palette Locked in Ice

This piece started as an exercise in restraint, working almost entirely within a monochromatic blue and lavender palette to see how much mood and depth could come from value alone rather than a wide range of color. The pale, near-white skin tones against the deep indigo hair and lavender background give the piece a cold, otherworldly feel before any other detail is considered.

Texture as Character

The real focus of this piece was texture, especially in the hair, where I used a dry, chalky brush technique to create dimension and movement instead of relying on smooth gradients. That same rough texture carries into the loose, sketchy strands falling across the forehead, contrasting against the smoother rendering of the face and giving the piece a hand drawn, almost frostbitten quality. As with the other character pieces, I extended this one into a short animated version to bring some subtle life and movement to an otherwise still, statuesque portrait.
